The kitchen of the Mill House in Kilkenny is full of country touches, including the 1920s reconditioned Aga from Albert Crozier of Moorfield Cookers (048 42758888/ +44 7740 477 04) who gets 60 per cent of his business from the South. You choose a cooker from his Co Down warehouse and he then reconditions and re-enamels it in the colour of your choice. An oven similar in size to the four-oven pictured costs about €8,000, including installation, reconditioning and re-enamelling. A double-oven costs €6,500.

HF Modelling in Cashel, Co Tipperary (062-62441) also sells re-enamelled and reconditioned Agas. Supply and fit for two-oven from €6,500.

Pat Lennon Fitted Kitchens of Gowran, Co Kilkenny (086 272 0155 /056 26394) built the waxed pine island with Belfast sink and dishwasher (from €6,500 upwards). The painted units either side of the Aga are made from tulip wood, also by Pat, at around €1,500 for the pair. The traditional bench pictured is from Strawbridge (0404 40502).
