Fresh from receiving Britain’s Royal Gold Medal for its body of work over three decades, Dublin-based O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects are on the shortlist for yet another award.
Their new student centre for the London School of Economics – described by former environment editor of this paper Frank McDonald as a “brick riot off Lincoln’s Inn Fields” – is in the running for the Mies van der Rohe prize for European architecture. The other four shortlisted finalists are the Danish Maritime Museum and the Ravensburg Art Museum in Denmark; the Antinori Winery in Tuscany; and the Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin, Poland.
The winning building will be announced on May 8th, after the architects make presentations of their buildings to members of the jury.
