The Offington Estate, just past the village of Sutton in Dublin, was constructed by Goffs in the 1970s. Built to designs similar to Californian estates of that era, it has a comparable feel to that of the Ardilea development in Clonskeagh.

At the height of the property boom houses here were selling for more than €1.5 million, with many owners knocking the original properties and essentially buying properties purely for their generous sites.

Number 6 has been home to the owner couple for the past two decades, who over the course of the years have added two extensions designed by architect Noel Brady, which now give the house a generous 211sq m (2,271sq ft) of floor space.

The first extension in 1999 added a bright split-level sunroom to the rear of the property. The strategic placement of the windows allows the sun to shine in all day. “We didn’t want a glass box as it would be too cold in winter and too warm in summer so the architect came up with this design,” says the owner.

All rooms in the property look out onto the gardens which are perfectly maintained and home to acers, magnolia, a giant mimosa and agapanthus – the front garden has a superb weeping willow.

The second extension added a large hall which acts as a second sunroom depending on the time of day.

The property has two fires; an open hearth in the formal drawing room and a stove in the rear sunroom.

Ground floor

There are three bedrooms in total. The third is located on the ground floor and is currently used as an office. Upstairs there were initially three bedrooms but the layout was changed to give a very generous main suite complete with an en suite and walk-in wardrobe, and a fine sized second bedroom.

Sherry FitzGerald is seeking €925,000 for the house which is in excellent condition throughout, though new owners will more than likely wish to change the blue carpet in the drawing room and inner hallway which feels a little dated compared with the maple floors in the extension

Number 8 sold in 2017 for €692,500, though it is significantly smaller at 115sq m. Gallagher Quigley is seeking €1.5 million for number 25, a new build with a whopping 465sq m of floor space.
