The Offington Estate, just past the village of Sutton in Dublin, was constructed by Goffs in the 1970s. Built to designs similar to Californian estates of that era, it has a comparable feel to that of the Ardilea development in Clonskeagh.

At the height of the property boom houses here were selling for more than €1.5 million, with many owners knocking the original properties and essentially buying properties purely for their generous sites.

Number 6 has been home to the owner couple for the past two decades, who over the course of the years have added two extensions designed by architect Noel Brady, which now give the house a generous 211sq m (2,271sq ft) of floor space.

The first extension in 1999 added a bright split-level sunroom to the rear of the property. The strategic placement of the windows allows the sun to shine in all day. “We didn’t want a glass box as it would be too cold in winter and too warm in summer so the architect came up with this design,” says the owner.

The second extension added a large hall which acts as a second sunroom depending on the time of day.
