Malahide pile designed to party

Five-bed detached house with pool and ponds, a gym and an outdoor bar for €1.5 million

There are nine televisions in Brookdale, a 511sq m (5,500sq ft) detached house in Malahide, currently for sale with O’Farrell Cleere Auctioneers. Its garage, which currently holds one of the televisions (for storage rather than entertainment) fits six cars and boasts underfloor heating.

There is a swimming pool, a hot tub, sauna, two ponds and a gym – as well as an outdoor bar area, five bedrooms (all en suite), two living rooms, a sun room and two outdoor decked areas – one on a balcony off the first-floor living room. In short, Brookdale lacks neither space nor mod cons.

Bought 23 years ago, Brookdale – with an asking price of €1.5 million – was extensively redesigned and refurbished in the mid-2000s, to the extent that, says the current owner, “it is just not the same house it was”.

Inside the front door, a large entrance hallway opens onto the ground-floor living and dining area, an open-plan room that includes the kitchen and leads into the sun room.

Barbeques and hot tub
A decked area overlooks the rear portion of a 1.5-acre garden, which includes a covered bar area with fridge-freezer and two barbecues; a swimming pool with changing room and showers; a hot tub and sauna behind the pool; a small Norwegian cabin, which has a central barbecue system; and a pond with water feature.

Back inside, two bedrooms are located on the ground floor. Both are large and en suite, with a shared walk-in wardrobe. There is also a guest toilet downstairs and a small utility room with rear access.

Upstairs, the large central living room is open plan, giving the entire first floor an airy and contemporary loft feel. Three bedrooms and the gym are upstairs, the latter accessible from the first-floor decking area – which has stairs to the ground-floor bar.

The three upstairs bedrooms are all en suite.

The standout feature on the first floor is the third bedroom, which has a loft-style bed, accessed via a small staircase, with the result that the bedroom functions as a private living room – a teenager’s dream.
