Lots of living space in Castleknock

This detached five-bedroom property is on 0.3 of an acre and is asking €1.75 million

Castleknock was a rural village in West Dublin until a building boom in the 1960s when the village became a suburb of Dublin. While late in terms of housing development, the locality was home to the oldest candle manufacturing company in the world. Rathborne Candles, established in 1488, spent the greater part of its existence in Castleknock, and is now based in nearby Blanchardstown.

Deerpark and Georgian Village are the prime locations in Dublin 15 and house prices reflect this, with houses attaining near the million euro mark.

Durrow, Number 10 Deerpark Road, constructed in the 1970s, is set on a completely private corner site. The owners extended to the side of the property, adding two bedrooms and a larger kitchen, bringing the total footprint to a spacious 353sq m (3,800sq ft).

The exterior of the house is somewhat deceptive; it’s a rather bleak facade to an otherwise warm and inviting home in turnkey condition. The house seems to have endless areas of living space; a dual-aspect drawing and diningroom runs the entire width of the property with French windows to the garden.

Two further livingrooms warmed by antique fireplaces allow ample space for informal entertaining.

Wraparound patio

The country-style kitchen, housing a large Leisure range and Belfast sink, has black granite countertops and leads to an informal dining area with further access to the wraparound patio in the rear garden.

Upstairs are five bedrooms, three of which are en-suite. The master suite runs the width of the property and has a balcony overlooking the secluded rear garden.

The garden, surrounded by high evergreen trees and shrubs, has room for development due to its size and aspect and it will keep gardeners busy as the site is on 0.3 of an acre. There is also a wired and plumbed garage.

Down the road, number 22, a 264sq m (2,847sq ft) house is for sale with an asking price of €1.1 million. Number 10, in turnkey condition with considerably more space, is seeking €1.75 million through agent Newcombe Estates.
