Exceptionally fine holiday homes in Co Cavan's lake district are going on the market this weekend before the boating and fishing seasons wind down for another year.

One of the 10 detached homes planned for Lough Corraback, near Belturbet, has already been completed and four more are under construction on a superb site nestling between the lough and the restored canal that runs between the Shannon and Lough Erne. The timelessness and tranquility of the area is a strong selling point.

The homes are being built by Navan-based developer Pat Burke whose company Glenbarier Ltd will be pitching for sales in the Dublin area because the homes are within 55 miles of the city, a trip that can be completed in less than two hours at off-peak times. Belturbet estate agent Sean Martin will be handling the sale of the houses which are to go on the market from €480,000.

The two-storey homes are spacious with 255.4 sq m (2,750 sq ft), stylish and comfortable with two handsome reception rooms and five bedrooms. Most interest is likely to centre on the double height livingroom which is focussed on the water and catches the sun for much of the day.

There is an overhead gallery off the livingroom which serves as a sunroom and provides uninterrupted views over two ancient waterways. The well-fitted kitchen doubles as a diningroom and is ideal for entertaining on a fairly lavish scale. Three of the five bedrooms are en suite and the main bathroom includes a high-tech steam shower designed to generate renewed energy after a trying day on the lake or the canal.

The developers have also provided lots of outside wooden decking which will come in handy during long summer days.
