SPECULATION is rife about the type of buyer who might descend on East Grove on Great Island near Cobh in Co Cork, owned by philanthropist and promoter of Irish American relations, Loretta Brennan Glucksman, right.

She and her husband Lewis Glucksman, once a CEO of Lehman Brothers, who died in 2006, bought and renovated the house around in the 1990s. Together, they funded many important Irish ventures over a number of years.

The seven-bedroom house on 14 acres is on the market through Knight Frank and Cork agent Dominic Daly for €3 million.

The house was owned by the Bagwell family from the 19th century until the 1950s.

Since then, it has had Irish, English, American, Dutch, German and Lebanese owners.

As well as fabulous rooms befitting such a pile, there’s the private jetty , two small boathouses, two safe docks ringed in stone, and a pontoon capable of accommodating several craft.

There’s also a two-bed gate lodge, a one-bed guest cottage, a tennis court, paddocks and newly enclosed swimming pool, adorned by woodland murals and a stable yard.
