Athy: €3.25mA substantial 18th century house, run as a hotel, is on the market having been recently restored, writes Edel Morgan
Back on the market this week is Bert House, in Athy, Co Kildare, a large period house run as a hotel but which has in the past been bought and sold as a grand family home.
The house is on the market for €3.25 million through Colliers Jackson-Stops. Its English owners are selling up, having restored it.
Approached via a tree-lined avenue, the house has 17 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a number of impressive reception rooms with period plasterwork.
Bert House has been on the market a number of times in recent years. In 1998, it went to auction with a guide price of £1 million. Two years later it was withdrawn from auction quoting over £850,000
Dating from 1725, the house was designed by Thomas De Burgh, and was enlarged with two wings in the early 19th century.
In the basement there's a leisure and fitness facility and outside there are west-facing formal gardens with wide lawns.
