Tuesday (December 5th) Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers sale of Rare Books, Manuscripts, Maps & Fine Wines at the Tara Towers Hotel, Merrion Road, Dublin 4. 84 per cent of lots sold. Lot 387, an early 18th century atlas, The World Described by the cartographer Hermann Moll, with a collection of hand-coloured maps, published c 1726, €30,000 (€15,000-€20,000).

Among the jewellery is Lot 70, a gold pendant with 26 oval peridots (olive-green gemstones with a total weight of 32.05cts) in the shape of a heart €4,000-€6,000. Monday (December 11th) Whyte's Christmas Sale at the Freemasons' Hall, 17 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2 at 6pm. Art including paintings from the estate of the artist Robert Taylor Carson, ceramics, rare books, sculpture, jewellery, silver, sports memorabilia, film posters, fine wines and spirits including Lot 324, a bottle of Acushla Finest Old Irish Whiskey, the brand was part of the Dublin Whiskey Export Co and flourished in America in the years before Prohibition, €800-€1,200.
