Tuesday (December 5th) Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers sale of Rare Books, Manuscripts, Maps & Fine Wines at the Tara Towers Hotel, Merrion Road, Dublin 4. 84 per cent of lots sold. Lot 387, an early 18th century atlas, The World Described by the cartographer Hermann Moll, with a collection of hand-coloured maps, published c 1726, €30,000 (€15,000-€20,000).

Art including paintings from the estate of the artist Robert Taylor Carson, ceramics, rare books, sculpture, jewellery, silver, sports memorabilia, film posters, fine wines and spirits including Lot 324, a bottle of Acushla Finest Old Irish Whiskey, the brand was part of the Dublin Whiskey Export Co and flourished in America in the years before Prohibition, €800-€1,200. Part 1 at 11am features silver, jewellery and wine including Lot 231, an Egyptian silver and gold mounted cigarette case, formerly the owned by King Farouk of Egypt (1936-1952), presented in appreciation to the father of the vendor, a young naval officer who assisted his exile in Italy, €1,500-€2,000; Part 2 of the auction, at 6pm features art and books including Lot 542, A Prospect of Irish Flowers by Wendy Walsh (published by The Blackstaff Press, Belfast, signed and numbered 32 out of a limited edition of 125, contained in a slipcase) €700-€900.
