Saturday (March 12th) Woodward's, Cork. A painting, The Royal Yacht Squadron escorting Queen Victoria to Cork Harbour, 1849 by George Mounsey Wheatley Atkinson €28,000 (€25,000-€35,000). Sunday (March 13th) Whyte's History Sale, Freemasons' Hall, Dublin. 82 per cent of lots sold. A racecard for the Ward Union Hunt Steeplechases at Fairyhouse racecourse on Easter Monday 1916 (below) – an event attended by many British soldiers garrisoned in Ireland and who were therefore unable to respond immediately to the rebellion – sold for €4,000 – 10 times the median estimate (€300-€500).

An original copy of the 1916 Proclamation €185,000 (€150,000-€250,000); a "Half Proclamation" reputedly printed as souvenirs by British soldiers in Liberty Hall €8,000 (€5,000-€7,000); a bottle of whiskey distilled in 1916 by the Dublin Whiskey Distillery €15,000 (€15,000-€25,000); a diary owned by Éamon de Valera during his imprisonment in England after the Rising €5,400 (€3,000-€5,000); three photographs taken on board U-19, the German submarine that brought Sir Roger Casement to Banna Strand €4,200 (€1,500-42,000). The 1916 medals awarded posthumously to Proclamation signatories Thomas Clarke (€80,000-€120,000) and Joseph Plunkett (€70,000-€100,000) failed to sell. Tuesday (March 15th) John Weldon Auctioneers, Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. An Irish silver oval butter dish made circa 1780 in Dublin by silversmith Joseph Jackson €4,900 (€800-€1,500); a Pope John Paul II/Knock Centenary platinum medallion by John Roche of Grafton Street €1,280 (€1,200-€1,800). An Irish silver dish ring with a blue glass liner, made in Dublin in 1916 by Weir & Son, engraved "Presented to John Kennedy Esq by Lord Justice Molony in remembrance of the perils of Easter Monday 1916" and estimated at €5,000-€10,000 was unsold.
