Two paintings by Jack B Yeats will be auctioned by Christie's in London next week. On Wednesday, Meeting the Dawn, an oil-on-canvas measuring 50cm by 68cm (20in by 27in) and painted in 1948 has an estimate of £200,000-£300,000 (€233,000-€349,000). This painting last changed hands in London at Sotheby's in May 2008 when it sold for £240,500 (€280,000). According to the catalogue it depicts, "A cloaked rider on his steed, a man with a banner, and a donkey, lead a procession of figures (which include a mother with a baby and a child) up the hill towards the light".
On Thursday, Early Away an oil-on-board, measuring 36cm by 45cm (14in by 18in) and also dating from 1948, goes under the hammer with an estimate of £60,000- £80,000 (€70,000–€93,000). – MP
