Autumn season begins at Adam’s

More than 500 lots will go under the hammer at Sunday Interiors auction

Viewing is under way today for tomorrow's Sunday Interiors auction at Adam's. More than 500 lots will go under the hammer, including furniture, silver, pictures, jewellery, rugs, porcelain and oriental objets d'art. A Victorian circular presentation silver salver, made in Sheffield in 1895 by silversmiths Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall) and retailed by Waterhouse of Dublin, is estimated at between €1,500 and €2,500. The salver, which weighs 2,750g, is inscribed: "Presented to Commandant Peter Fahy as a token of Gratitude and Appreciation by those Officers of the Army Medical Service whose Welfare was so Materially Improved by his Courage and Resolution."

Among other highlights are a William IV carved giltwood overmantel mirror (€2,000-€3,000) and a large Japanese ivory okimono (carved figure) of a street trader, depicted in traditional costume, playing a shamisen three-stringed instrument (€1,000-€1,500).

A late-Victorian dappled-grey rocking horse, “with grey tail and mane, later applied fitted leather saddle and bridle, raised on a painted timber stand”, is estimated at € 1,000-€1,500, while a pair of Edwardian claret jugs, made in 1905 in London, is €300-€500.

The Sunday Interiors auction, at Adam's, 26 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, takes place tomorrow, September 21st, at 11.30am.
