Jack B Yeats’ ‘The Light of Town’ sells above estimates for £67,300 at Christie’s Auctions


Auction Results:

Friday (June 26th) Christie's, London. Auction of Modern British & Irish Art, London. Two paintings by Jack B Yeats went under the hammer: The Light of Towns – painted in 1947 – sold for £67,300 (estimated at £40,000- £60,000); and The Tops of the Mountains – painted circa 1925-26 – made £25,000 (£20,000-£30,000); also, Maidenhead Regatta – a 1932 painting by Sir John Lavery, sold for £52,500 (£40,000-£60,000).

Tuesday (June 30th) Christie's, London. Study for Head of Isabel Rawsthorne and George Dyer, painted in 1967, by Francis Bacon made £12.2 million (£8 million-£12 million); Two Men in a Field, painted in 1971, by Francis Bacon sold for £10.7 million (£7 million-£10 million).

Forthcoming Auctions: Monday (July 6th) Mullen's Laurel Park, Bray, Co Wicklow. Antiques auction at 11am. More than 800 lots and featuring furniture purchased from Charleville Castle, Tullamore, Co Offaly in 1981, including a Chippendale-style mahogany dining table and 10 chairs (€2,000-€3,000); and an ebonised, brass-inlaid and red tortoiseshell-inlaid centre table (€1,800-€2,600).
