Antiques auctions and valuations: autumn calendar fills up

The major Dublin auctioneers have announced dates for the first big autumn sales. There’s still time to consign items but closing dates are imminent.

Adam's will hold a Sunday Interiors sale on September 14th; Important Irish Art on October 1st; and, a two-day Country House Collections auction at Slane Castle on October 12th and 13th.

Whyte's The Eclectic Collector auction takes place in Dublin on September 13th, followed by an Irish and International Art auction on September 29th .

De Veres Irish Art and Design Auction on September 30th will include paintings and 20th-century furniture.

Sotheby's is seeking items of Chinese ceramics and art for its Asian sales. Its specialist, Dublin-born Angela McAteer will offer free appraisals, by appointment only, in Ireland on September 1st and 2nd. She said: "We've seen strong results for Chinese works sourced in Ireland. If anyone has an object around the house that they might have previously overlooked in terms of its potential value – the ceramic lamp stand by the bed or that special pride-of-place family heirloom in the living room – it's worth showing it to us."
