Bonhams, New York. Dogs in Show and Field: The Fine Art Sale. A superb Victorian painting of dogs sheltering from rain titled Wait Til The Clouds Roll By by the British artist William Henry Hamilton Trood (1860-1899) sold for US$68,500 (estimate US$30,000-$50,000).

John McInnis Auctioneers, Amesbury, Massachusetts, USA. Auction of JFK memorabilia from the collection of Irish-American White House aide David Powers. An Air Force One leather bomber jacket worn by President John F Kennedy US$570,000 ($20,000-$40,000). A photo of the presidential motorcade on Dublin’s O’Connell Street dated June 26th, 1963 signed, and inscribed by the president: Homecoming for Dave Powers – from his travelling companion – Dublin, sold for US$12,650.

Letter written from prison in 1916 by Terence MacSwiney (who was elected Sinn Féin Lord Mayor of Cork during the War of Independence and later died on hunger strike) €2,950 (no estimate); Solid silver Russian automated figure of a ballerina, in the form of a Fabergé egg €1,800 (€500-€800); a 19th-century mahogany grandfather clock, made by William Lowry of Antrim, €1,500 (€2,000-€4,000); a Baccarat glass and solid silver wine decanter, circa 1800, €520 (€200-€300).
