SAVILLS GOT reasonable prices this week for two houses that had attracted a good deal of attention due to their rundown condition.
Hoards of househunters turned to up to see a cottage at 8 Beatty’s Avenue on the Dodder in Ballsbridge that was virtually in shell condition, according to the agent. The viewers were attracted by a low guide price of €299,000 which seemed too low to be true. And so it turned out.
The property was due to be auctioned yesterday but a pre-auction bid of around €400,000 clinched a deal on Tuesday.
The second house, a two-up two-down needing everything done to it at 5 Pleasants Lane in the Dublin 8, did make it to auction yesterday.
There was a full house, according to Bobby Geraghty at Savills, with six bidders emerging. The property was sold under the hammer at €280,000.
Meanwhile, in Co Wexford, Kehoe & Associate Auctioneershad a successful sale of a holiday home at the popular Burrow enclave at Rosslare Strand. Three bidders pushed the price to €375,000, which had been the AMV. Colum Murphy of Kehoes said after: "This is a very positive sign for the holiday home market. Rosslare has always been a strong market – even in the boom years it was a micro-economy onto itself. Potential buyers are more clued-in to what represents value for money and what does not, now more than ever before."
