Shopfront: Furniture and lighting designer Leo Scarff has been making one-off expensive, usually commissioned, pieces for quite a while. But now he has just started to produce a new commercial range called Jist with Paul and Gordon Byrne, also a designer.
The idea is to make cleverly-designed furniture with a bit of style available at reasonable prices.
Sure, you may say this has been done many times before (Habitat, Muji and company) but the difference is that design-wise, pieces from Jist really do look more expensive than they cost and are also a bit smarter than the bland cookie-cutter design found at a similar price level.
The shelving, mirrors, soft and hard seating, storage units and coffee tables are all simple with little superfluous detail. Many items are taken down to a basic functional shape: a good thing we think. Prices from €25 to €100.
