An Bord Pleanála has approved a plan by Deane Homes to build over 700 residential units on lands formerly occupied by the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) at Stocking Lane in Dublin 16. As well as houses and apartments the 10-year planning permission is for a community centre, shops, a crèche, pub and five offices on the 54-acre site.
The DSPCA sold the site to Deane Homes for an undisclosed sum which helped finance its move to the 30-acre Pine Valley Golf Club at Mount Venus in Rathfarnham which it bought from the O'Carroll family two years ago.
The development faced opposition from two parties who lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála - Mountbrook Homes, which owns a substantial landholding beside the Deane Homes site and Simon Murray, who has an address at Stocking Lane.
Mountbrook Homes said that while it has no objection in principle to the development, it claimed that drawings of the proposed development show an incorrect boundary between its landholding and that of Deane Homes.
Mountbrook also expressed concern that it would be prevented from linking into the roads and services of the subject development "contrary to the action area plan".
Simon Murray said that access onto the lane has not been adequately dealt with and he had concerns in relation to traffic volume.
However, An Bord Pleanála ruled the development would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience and would be in accordance with the sustainable development of the area.
