Welcome to Week 8 of Get Swimming, a 12-week programme brought to you by The Irish Times, in association with Swim Ireland. Congratulations, you’re two thirds of the way through our programme and we hope you are on course to be able to swim a mile by May.
Week 8
This week, we are working on extending the distance you can swim comfortably to 1,400m. This week's programme focuses on tumbling in the middle of the pool and at the wall, breathing and floating. Your swimming coach, former Olympian Melanie Nocher offers tips on these and front crawl arms and legs and mushroom float in our instruction video.
If you are taking part, you need to be able to commit to three training sessions a week. Remember, you can still register for Swim Ireland's Swim for a Mile challenge at swimforamile.com.
