Gadgets: making travel easier

Using your Ego to capture the action, carry-on luggage with a stand-on scooter and collapsible water

Liquid Image Ego
Another intruder into Go-Pro Hero territory, Liquid Image's Ego is a wi-fi enabled HD camera that can stream video to Android or iOS smartphones and tablets. In fact these devices can also remotely control the Ego, which comes with a range of accessories and mounts for helmets, bikes and lots of other opportunities to capture your gnarly, all-action escapades – or spectacular fail, as the young people might say. It has 136 degree wide-angle and the capability to shoot 1080p HD, so now you just have to find something risky and photogenic to try. Available in black, white, red, blue and yellow to match your bruises.

Micro luggage
Micro (Mobility) is the brand here: that isn't just a teeny carry-on. Despite its dark exteriors and Swiss origins, there's a real design smile here, because it has a fold-down kickboard (like a scooter) at the back. So you can push off and scoot your way across the seemingly endless labyrinth that is often the modern transport hub. Transfer your weight to steer and curve your case, and you, through passenger traffic. Then flip the kickboard back in place and the wheels retract. The case itself is well-conceived too, in partnership with Samsonite. It's claimed to fit common carry-on allowances and the dimensions seem to stack up. The kids have their Trunkis: why can't we have a bit of airport fun too?

Collapsible water bottle
A simple idea for travel. This silicone bottle collapses for easy packing and screws apart in the centre so you can also use it as a pair of cups. Just don't try that when it's full. It is dishwasher safe and holds 600ml.
