GAA clubs in Kilkenny can be mighty competitive, as we know, and every year the Dicksboro, O’Loughlin Gaels and James Stephens clubs compete for the “King of the Castle” title earned by the club which raises the most money for charity.
This year, the Dicksboro club hopes to raise €100,000 to provide a family room for St Luke's Hospital, in support of the Ger Dervane Memorial Fund. They've got more than 40 fund-raising events on the go, but top billing goes to Neven Maguire, who will host a cookery demonstration for them on Tuesday, October 27th, in the Ormonde Hotel at 7pm. Mary Gaynor of the Wine Academy in Thomastown will suggest wines to go with his dishes, and there will be other attractions for foodies. Tickets, €25, from Carmel Devane, tel: 086-1503230 or Michael Devane, tel: 086-2504081. Patsey Murphy
