Seven things to do this week
TODAY: Kenmare is undoubtedly the place to be this weekend for the first "Appetite for Life" festival. You're bound to fall into good company as well as great food in a small town with 44 restaurants - 12 of them in the Michelin Guide. Contact Margaret Ryan on 087-2367413 for last-minute accommodation.
TOMORROW: Head for Bundoran for a spell of sassy salsa dancing, R&B parties, dance workshops and open-floor competitions overseen by Dr Rumba, among others. Bundoran and Westport now host salsa festivals every November and February. www.afrimania.com has the details.
MONDAY: New Michael Collins memorabilia, presented to the National Museum by the general's great grand-nephew, Michael Collins, is now on display at, you guessed it, Collins Barracks in Benburb Street, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. See www.museum.ie
TUESDAY: Hanson, the all-American tyke band (remember Mmmbop?) play the Temple Bar Music Centre tonight at 7.30 p.m. They're now in their 20s - how well have they aged? Tickets €20 at 01-6709202.
WEDNESDAY: Need a new pair of gloves? Buy them tonight at Costume, in Castle Market, Dublin 2 at an evening in aid of the Chernobyl Children's Project. Champagne, ice cream and several raffles from 5-8 p.m. will jizz things up nicely.
THURSDAY: Ben Dunne is opening an exhibition of paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glassware, prints and jewellery at Blackrock College RFC in Stradbrook Road tonight. Viewing from 6 p.m. and show continues Friday (5-9 p.m.) Saturday (noon-6 p.m.) and Sunday (noon-4 p.m.)
FRIDAY: Ladyfest Dublin ("all genders welcome") promises three days of music, art and film celebrating creative achievements of women. For information about a very full programme including talks and workshops, call into Road Records in Fade Street, Dublin 2, or see www.ladyfestdublin.org.
