Jolly brollies

Two sister shopkeepers who love the rain are Teresa and Mary McGovern, owners of Pagan boutique, in Galway. Their Berlin brollies cause quite a stir when they're opened up in inclement weather. Bearers can shelter under images such as the Sistine Chapel, Botticelli's Birth of Venus or Jack Vettriano's Singing Butler. The umbrellas, which come in eight designs, are sturdy enough to withstand Atlantic winds. Trendy Galwegians are even buying them to match their outfits. "We sold loads for the races," says Mary McGovern. At €35 apiece, they're year-round accessories for the Irish climate. Pagan is at Upper Abbeygate Street, Galway, 091-569767.
