Book of Kells – with text messages

Mags Harnett’s irreverent exhibition in Trinity

The Irish mammy is the focal point of Mags Harnett's irreverent take on the Book of Kells in her Scribe 2 Scribe exhibition running in the Long Room, Trinity College. The image, on page seven of the manuscript is of the child Jesus in the Virgin's arms. In Harnett's 21st century reinterpretation, baby Jesus has been replaced by a smartphone, with one scribe talking to another via text message. A limited edition print costs €45 and can be purchased from magsharnett.com. The exhibition closes on November 30th.
