It's taking a while to filter through, but trouble at the banks, is trouble for the arts too: in the US, Lehman Brothers were major supporters of the arts, and had a large corporate collection; and in Ireland, arts organisations will also be feeling the sponsorship pinch.
So watch out for some exciting initiatives to fill the shortfall over the coming months. At Kinsale Arts Week, they've come up with a mixture of eBay, the auction room, some art, and a party, and it's online from today.
The "Big Auction" includes art by Sheenagh Geoghegan, Eilis O'Connell, Vivienne Roche, June Fairhead, Katherine Beug and Poppy Hunt, as well as non-art treats (like a round of golf at the Old Head, Kinsale).
