When a much-loved make-up brand decides to launch a skincare line, I’m always a little wary. Will it be any good or will it turn out to be just a lame expansion of their range?
I don’t usually concentrate on just one brand when reviewing, but I think this new range from BareMinerals deserves it. BareMinerals has always had skincare options but the quality was sometimes hit-and-miss. However, the recent launch of a comprehensive skincare line immediately piqued my interest and sent me hurrying to try out as many products as possible.
I’m happy to say that this is a well-thought-out range. The serum/essence Skin Longevity is the standout product and I have reviewed it in this week’s Tried and Tested.
I’ve been using two cleansers: Oil Obsessed, an excellent make-up remover; and, more unusual, the Clay Chameleon cleanser, which I love. The latter, with its mixture of red clay, kaolin and papaya, is akin to giving yourself a mini facial every time you cleanse. The clay will draw out impurities and the papaya gently exfoliates. Be aware, however, that there are essential oils such as bergamot in the mix, which, if you have sensitive skin, might irritate it.
Moisturisers are available to suit all skin types. I like True Oasis Oil-Free Replenishing Gel Cream, a water-based formula for oily and combo skin. Bare Haven is a light and hydrating moisturiser for normal to dry skin and works well as a day cream and under make-up. The moisturiser I am most delighted by is Butter Drench. I love rich night creams and, with a high content of of shea butter, this one feels silky and luxurious – the perfect night cream for dry to very dry skin.
What I’m particularly impressed with across the range is the concentration of active ingredients that actually do something as opposed to just being fillers. Job well done, BareMinerals.
