Junior Cycle results to issue on October 18th

The results of this year’s Junior Cycle exams will be released to students on October 18th, Minister for Education Norma Foley has confirmed.

Exam results will be available from schools and accessible online after 4pm.

Speaking at the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party think-in in Co Tippeary on Monday, Ms Foley said: “I can confirm that the State Examination Commission has confirmed to me that the Junior Cycle results will issue on October 18th.

“I know that there are students the length and breadth of the country eagerly anticipating that date, as are schools and school staff,” she added.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Junior Cycle results were released in mid-September. However, results were issued on November 23rd last year, some six months after students sat their exams.

At the time, the State Examinations Commission said that a severe shortage of examiners was the root cause of the delays in releasing the results. Ms Foley said her department would conduct a review into the timings of the Junior Cycle results following that delay.

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland noted that the results would be available more than a month earlier than they were last year and said Ms Foley’s announcement “provides clarity for students, their families and schools”.
