A man in his 60s has died following a crash in Dublin’s north inner city late on Wednesday night.

The single vehicle crash occurred when a jeep collided with an electricity pole at 11.55pm on the East Wall Road.

Gardaí and the emergency services attended the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the jeep, a man in his 60s, was transferred to the Mater hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported, gardaí said in a statement.

The East Wall road is closed between the North Strand Road and Alfie Byrne Road to facilitate a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators this morning. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, who were travelling in the area at the time to make this available to them.
