Tributes have been paid to a man who died in a workplace incident at a construction site in Co Kilkenny on Thursday.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and gardaí have launched investigations into the fatal workplace incident that occurred on a construction site on the Dublin Road in Kilkenny on Thursday, December 12th, at approximately 4pm.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene where the man, aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead.
The deceased has been named locally as Pat “Patsy” Mackin (59) of the Meadows, Callan, Kilkenny. Mr Mackin, a father of two, was originally from Roath, Cardiff, in Wales. It is believed that Mr Mackin may have been hit by a vehicle on the construction site in Kilkenny.

One friend described him as a very “present and loyal man”. Another said: ‘’He was an absolute gentleman to work with. He was a lovely man and will always be remembered for his beaming smile.”
Mr Mackin is survived by his wife Ann and children Rhiannon and James. His funeral will take place on Tuesday at 11am in St Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny.
In statistics released earlier this year there were 43 workplace fatalities in Ireland in 2023 with 11 of those occurring in construction. So far this year there have been 30 workplace fatalities in Ireland with four occurring in construction.
