A man was arrested after a male pedestrian, in his 60s, was fatally struck by a car in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, on Thursday evening.
The incident happened on the town’s Main Street at around 6.30pm on Thursday evening. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after gardaí and emergency services arrived.
His body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital, where a postmortem examination will take place.
The road is currently closed, with local diversions in place, and the scene has been preserved for technical examination.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident, and has since been released without charge.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the fatal road traffic incident to come forward, including those with camera or dash cam footage who were in the Ballinrobe area between 6pm and 7pm on Thursday.
