Gardai are investigating after a man and woman were attacked at their home in the Innishmore housing estate in Ballincollig, Co Cork in the early hours of this morning.
The man, who is in his 60s, and the woman who is aged in her 30s, were transferred to Cork University Hospital having sustained injuries in the incident which occurred shortly before 1am.
A gang of men arrived at the house in Innishmore Square and attacked the couple inside. The alarm was raised and paramedics and gardaí arrived at the scene.
The man and woman were taken by ambulance to hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries. It is understood they incurred ‘cut-type injuries’ in the assault.

A number of items used by the gang were recovered following the attack, including a golf club and a hammer.
The area where the assault occurred was sealed off for a forensic examination.
Gardaí are also carrying door to door enquiries as they continue their probe in to the matter.
There is no known motive for the attack and no arrests have been made.
Gardaí will gather and examine CCTV footage in the area in a bid to track down the assailants who left the scene by car.
