Met Éireann has issued a status yellow high temperature alert for Leinster and Tipperary, warning of maximum temperatures in excess of 27 degrees over the coming days.
The warning, which was issued on Tuesday, comes into effect for the 13 counties at 6am on Wednesday. It will lapse at the same time on Friday.
Minimum temperatures at night-time are expected to be above 15 degrees during the alert, which warns of potential heat stress, animal welfare issues and uncomfortable sleeping conditions.
The forecaster also warned of water safety issues arising from increased use of water bodies.

Before the alert comes into effect, temperatures are expected to reach peaks of 27 degrees on Tuesday, which is set to be a “warm or very warm” day, the forecaster said.
On Wednesday, which will be a “humid and very warm or even hot day”, highest temperatures are expected to reach 28 or 29 degrees. It will be “hottest” in Leinster.
Temperatures will be a bit lower in some coastal parts of the west and southwest, ranging from about 20 to 23 degrees.
Thursday is expected to be another warm or hot day and will see highs of 28 degrees before temperatures fall back to between 17 and 22 degrees on Friday.
While there is some uncertainty in the forecast for the weekend, current indications suggest a “cooler end to the week”, with Sunday potentially being a “wetter day”, the forecaster said.
