Why we want Chrissy Teigen as our new VBF (and to unfriend Vogue Williams)

Her life is an insight into the celebrity world but vacuous it is not

Sometimes heroes don't wear capes. Sometimes heroes send tweets at the time that we need them most and one of said heroes is Chrissy Teigen.

Teigen’s day job is a model but anyone who follows her on Twitter knows that she is so much more than that. She is a food lover: her lard and carb-loaded recipe tweets are the inspiration behind her cookbook Cravings, which includes a recipe for a French toast casserole topped with Frosties. I’ve bought the book and I can confirm that she knows the way to our bloated hearts.

She's not just the co-host of Lip Sync Battle with LL Cool J, she's an avid TV lover and will provide passionate running commentaries for shows such as The Real Housewives of Orange County. She's also married to the singer John Legend, and she deserves credit for his output:  "2 grammy noms for @johnlegend no one has congratulated me for being the inspiration behind 'all of me' without me there is no all of me," she tweeted on December 6th, 2014. She'd happily trade Legend's 10 Grammy awards if someone can give her a cheat to get through a tricky level in Mario Kart.

In the ever-changing face of celebrity culture, with reality stars and flash-in-the-pan pop fads, Teigen she is made of stronger stuff. Her star status shines bright because she’s terribly funny, freshly blunt and seems like an all-round sound act, and when people ask what it is that she actually does, she has the perfect response.

After Teigen recently made fun of Sarah Sanders, Donald Trump's press secretary, one heckler asked, "And what exactly is your job besides being a bully, rude, and married to John Legend?" Teigen's reply, deadpan as ever: "You just listed 3 jobs. You want me to have more than 3 jobs?"

If her food analysis isn’t enough for you (and it should be with statements like this: “Writing headnotes for 120 cookbook recipes has to be the worst part of making a book. Why do I gotta explain that an enchilada is delicious and a burrito is delicious so of course a burrichilada would be delicious”), she’s also an astute music critic. “I like hotline bling because it’s great and I don’t have to Google what it’s about,” she said about Drake’s upbeat, mopey pop hit way back in 2015.

Her online persona is unfiltered and unpredictable but it always has craic at the heart of it, rather than a higly-sheened PR angle. Her life is an insight into the celebrity world but vacuous it is not.

This week we are unfriending ... Vogue Williams

Prince Harry's wedding invite list probably hasn't been drawn up yet - or maybe it has and it's locked in an airtight vault, guarded by soldiers that shoot bees out their mouths - but the Fade Street star has already told the Irish Sun that she doesn't expect an invite. Vogue is going out with a man called Spencer Matthews, whose brother James is married to Pippa "Rear of the Year runner up 2011" Middleton, sister of Kate. A tenuous link but if you want an invite to a wedding, we all know that you earn it by being sound, rather than throwing a huff.
