‘SINCE WE came back to school, we’ve been planning the year, organising different events and competitions. At the moment, we’re laying the foundations for a play, and we’re trying to find something that will suit us as a group. This is a mixed school, and every year the boys and girls put on a show. Usually it’s an Irish drama, but this year we might like to spice it up with a musical.
“Some people are interested in the BT Young Scientist competition, so we’re thinking of entering this too. On top of this, the Transition Year students have to get the mini-company off the ground, and we’re all really looking forward to going to Rostrevor for a bonding weekend in October. Later in the year, we’ll be taking part in the Irish Times school mag competition, and people are giving some thought to what role they might like to play in this.
“Before all that, of course, will come the first of three work experience weeks. I’ve already found my first week, working in a stables. I’ve always wanted to be a vet, so I’m hoping one will take me on later in the year.
“Transition Year has been interesting so far. I have a chance to take on subjects I’ve never done before, like science, woodwork, or art. I’m really enjoying this experience.”
