The Irish Times was named best online publication at the Realex Fire Irish Web Awards last night. It is the fifth time the newspaper has won the award, beating competition this year from publications including independent.ie and irishexaminer.com.
"We're delighted to get this recognition for all the hard work done by everyone at The Irish Times over the past year in improving and expanding our digital content across all platforms," said digital development editor Hugh Linehan.
He said The Irish Times website, irishtimes.com, and news applications for Apple and Android smartphones have all been substantially upgraded over the last 12 months. "The Irish Times has consistently been at the forefront of innovation in Irish media," he said. "And users can expect to see further exciting developments over the next 12 months."
Bonkers.ie was named best website. Kooba was web agency of the year, Joe.ie was best daily web-only publication, while Cool and Dandy won best web-only publication. Bridgesofdublin.ie was named best government and local government website and fusionandstreet.ie won most beautiful website.
