MASSIVE ATTACK
Danny the Dog
Virgin
After years of strategic song placement in cult and wannabe cult films, Massive Attack provide a dynamic and densely layered soundscape, at once cinematic and ambient, for their début film score. Danny the Dog recalls the beats and textures of their recent Mezzanine and 100th Window; its 21 tracks chart the very different moods of the Jet Li action vehicle. From the driving percussion and roiling guitar of Atta Boy, One Thought at a Time, Simple Rules and Collar Stays On to the introspective dubby ambience of Sam's Tunes, Red Light Means Go and Polaroid Girl (the electronic orchestration and distorted piano of Sam and Right Way to Hold a Spoon are particularly evocative) this is a score of unusual visceral force and emotional urgency.
