The Glassworks, Derry Tonight/ tomorrow Sun 7pm Adm free (ticket from othervoices.ie)
And so our favourite music event/festival spreads its wings and takes itself off to Derry. Yes, we know it was in New York over the past year, but that trip seemed rather esoteric compared to the annual Dingle Dongle that takes place every December. This is the first time Other Voices has travelled within Ireland, and with the support of the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure Northern Ireland, the British Council and Arts Council England, it’s a pleasure to say that the line-up, which was put together to celebrate Derry’s City of Culture 2013 celebrations, is a Hardyesque cracker.
While there is all manner of activity going on outside the primary music shows (these include Other Voices Music Trail across city venues, Imro Other Room showcase gigs, and Jim Carroll’s Banter Salon), many eyes and ears will nonetheless be on the co-headline likes of Damien Dempsey, Soak, Bronagh Gallagher, Jesca Hoop, Marina the Diamonds, Neil Hannon, Beth Orton, Daughter, James Yorkston and Two Door Cinema Club.
Derry done and dusted, so. Next stop? London in April . . .
