Track of the Week: Hey Everybody by 5 Seconds of Summer
Channelling Green Day in the enthusiastic spirit of your secondary school crush playing in a battle of the bands, 5SOS have grown up and we like it. There’s a vague social message to this track, but there’s enough sonic texture (like the nifty oh oh ohs over a solo baseline) to keep things interesting.
Hero of the week is Nicki Minaj, for being clear about what she believes in. She told the New York Times that while she wasn't secure about her looks when she was younger, now "I want to take steps to become more aware of who I am, what I like or dislike about my body." She went on, "I get that people put filters on their pictures – I definitely use filters – but I didn't know people retouched." She then recounted about being in a club with a friend who "cleaned all the sweat off our face'' [before 'gramming the pic]. "We're in a club! We can have a moist, dewy-looking face.''
Meanwhile, Luke 5SOS told the Daily Star that he'd love to write for one 1D member in particular. "I'd love to write for Niall if he does a solo album. We've written for One Direction before and he's a good dude. They are very talented so we would love to get involved." We are 100 per cent behind this.
Zero of the week is Rita Ora's love life, according to Rita Ora. She feels her high-profile relationships are overshadowing her work, she told the Evening Standard. "The work is forgotten overnight if you're seen with a person or something like that. It's more like, 'Give me the respect that I deserve as a hard-working independent female.' That's really the bottom line of it. Again, maybe I just need to have no personal life."
