Paul Pesce is best known for his drum'n'bass adventures in the 1990s on the Good Looking and Metalheadz labels, when he worked alongside dons such as LTJ Bukem and Goldie. He's looking to flex a much different set of creative muscles here. Generation is about live jazz, funk and soul workouts, all produced in tandem with Munich band Tounion, who give Pesce's scores some scintillating energy. It's a solid set of material, with Pesce's fondness for live sweeps of sound and intricate, detailed passages very much to the fore. The title track gets the Peshay carnival on the good foot, with a host of elements from Hammond organ to sci-fi sound effects taking flight. Midnight Express is a decent slice of bumping widescreen cinematic derring-do, with obvous debts paid to John Barry. Kickin' It with the Piano Trio is a smokey, small hours delight. facebook.com/djpeshay
