Surrey songwriter Lucy Rose has the right idea. Not for her is beavering away on songs for months at a time only to hide them away. Not for her, either, is performing with her back to the audience – the songs on Something's Changing evolved from touring in South and Central America for two months last year, as she engaged with her growing fan base in that part of the world.
It’s easy to see why Rose’s music is gaining a foothold outside the perceived usual territories – it has instinctive qualities such as lyrical depth and musical breadth, and while she may be indebted to some well known singer-songwriters we could mention, the experiences outlined are distinct and personal.
She has assistance here from The Staves, Daughter and Bear’s Den, but Rose is in charge and on top.
