Whatever you do, don't confuse Kodakid with Kodaline; the only similarity the two bands share is a penchant for glossy, high-end production. You won't hear any saccharine ballads on the Waterford quartet's debut, but there's plenty of jerky pop-rock that suggests songwriters in thrall to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bon Jovi (Outta Sight, the funky whomp of Low 7) and the likes of Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller (Dirty Like Rock 'n' Roll). Ultimately, Kodakid are overly in thrall to their influences: Shake Skin sounds like a Kings of Leon B-side tacked on to a tick the "blues rock" box; their lyric sheet palpably needs refining; and their straight-up pop-rock demeanour is too bland to be memorable. Simply put, it sounds like an album by a band still unsure both of who they are or where they want to go. facebook.com/kodakid
