Glimmermen’s 2013 debut earned them comparisons with angular acts such as Television and swarthy post-punk bands such as Mission of Burma, but their second record takes a somewhat less pointed approach to their influences.

On Be Careful, the Dublin quartet appropriate slinky 1960s soul in the same way that Orange Juice did, while the chorus of Bang and the squally bluster of Chasin' the Pin sounds straight out of the 1980s new-wave scene.

Amid the cracked grooves and blasts of brass, songs such as the excellent, evocative Ragged City paint a more reflective, downbeat picture, while Sun Comes Up draws things to a close in a manner that invokes the very essence of Nick Cave. At just nine tracks it's a concise collection, but there is plenty of eating and drinking in it.
