James Greenwood wields a variety of sounds on his debut album, but the most intriguing thing to hand is the London producer's own curiosity. His handiwork is full of moments where he takes a left at the point where the pack would hang a right or keep going straight. There's much to be said about the detailed, accomplished fabric of his tracks, but Greenwood's composure and confidence when it comes to following his instincts are just as worthy of note. There are echoes of previous electronic music adventure-seekers here (Arthur Russell for one), but Greenwood's knack is for making moody, tender, ghostly sounds that defy easy deconstruction. The electronic wash on Lying squawks as his hushed vocals go to work. Mouth and The Glaciers are similarly embellished, making for a rich, responsive, surprising listen. facebook.com/ghostculture
