There are only two tracks, albeit lengthy ones, on Kieran Hebden's eighth album as Four Tet, but it's quality, not quantity, that counts. Hebden has grown into his skin as a producer, knocking out great albums (There Is Love In You), working with interesting cats (Omar Souleyman, Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry) and rekindling his fondness for DJing. On Morning/ Evening Hebden hones samples, beats and textures to create gorgeous, spine-tingling, hypnotically moody soundscapes. Morning Side threads a sample from Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar through a glitchy canvas that wobbles and shimmers with aplomb as the track glides with airy elegance. Evening Side is a more broody movement, where the dominant ambient house wash gives way to more ominous tension from the drum rolls. Two tracks, then, for any time between dusk and dawn. fourtet.net
