This debut album from a young Londoner with an Irish background is a fine piece of work with much to recommend it.

Morrissey’s precocious talents were clear from a few years ago, but it is the metamorphosis between past potential and present reality that is the most striking aspect of this collection.

Morrissey’s voice will remind you of Karen Dalton, Lana Del Rey and Evie Sands, and her songs are like sepia-tinged postcards from the Laurel Canyon days of old.

Yet If You Can't Love All This Goes Away, Show Me and Pages of Gold have more to do with her reflections on the teenage experience than any desire to cast nostalgic shadows.
