Dexter Gordon called Tadd Dameron the romanticist of bebop and the influential pianist and composer would certainly have approved of Turkish drummer Ferit Odman’s dreamily romantic tribute.

Dameronia was the name of Philly Joe Jones' original tribute to Dameron, and Odman's feel at the drum set is similarly sure-footed and swinging, while trumpeter Terrell Stafford provides a burnished top line.

But it’s the “with Strings” part of the title that will be of particular interest to Irish listeners.

Dubliner David O'Rourke is one of the "go-to guys" for string writing in New York and his arrangements here are beautifully crafted, capturing the old-school charm of Dameron originals like Soultrane.
