Artist: de Barra
Genre: Traditional
Label: Claddagh Records

In music, the mantle isn't so much passed as shared across generations. An Cáitín Bán is a snapshot of a remarkable family. Seven de Barra siblings (among them Cormac on harp and vocals, Éamonn on flute, whistles, bodhrán and vocals, and Fionán on guitar, bass and vocals) saddle up alongside their mother Nessa (harpist and singer). Eclectic to its core, this family gathering is at one with harmony, reinventing Conocáinín Aerach Chill Mhuire in gentler, more meditative mode than some earlier incarnations. Their reach is wide, embracing a pair of gorgeous Breton songs, and Róisín's reading of Me zo Ganet is a baroque delight. Their tune choices bristle with energy, though individual virtuosity never overpowers the ensemble. claddaghrecords.com
