Dave Douglas - Brazen Heart: Live at the Jazz Standard: Four nights, eight hours, one fine trumpeter

Ever the innovator, trumpeter Dave Douglas’s latest release, through his own Greenleaf label, is another brave attempt to change the way we consume music.

Nothing beats the live experience, especially when it comes to improvisation, but these releases of entire live sets come a close second.

Brazen Heart first appeared last October as a CD, but then the band went out on tour to promote it, finishing with four nights at the Jazz Standard in New York.

All eight sets from that run are now available to stream or download, individually or in various bundles, amounting to over eight hours of music.

Oh yeah – the music: this group is one of the finest on the contemporary New York scene, and here’s more proof.
