LA-based Jillian Banks – you'll recall that as the stylised BANKS she was on the BBC Sound of 2014 list last year – has all the credentials for a singer-songwriter who likes delving into relatively dark recesses. As a distraught teenager she was given a piano by a family friend in order to express what she was emotionally internalising via the divorce of her parents. Several years on, Banks has developed the kind of icy, pop-glitch-laden sound that you're hearing all over the gaff. In other words, while the party is still making some interesting noises, Banks has arrived wearing the same dress as the hostess – there are bits and bobs that we've heard before (The xx, Sade, Lana Del Ray) and bits and pieces that just don't fit. For all of that, songs such as Change, Waiting Game and Someone New snag the senses. Hold on, then – maybe the party's not over yet. hernameisbanks.com Download: Change, Someone New
