Three Dublin bands will participate in JD Roots, a music event sponsored by Jack Daniels. Delorentos, We Cut Corners and The Minutes will play for one night only at the Button Factory, Dublin on May 18th. The idea for the “roots” element of the gig is that each of the bands will cover songs by Irish bands and artists who have influenced them. It replaces the JD Set, which took place last year in the same venue and saw a supergroup of musicians including Neil Hannon and Romeo Stodart cover Vampire Weekend’s debut album in its entirety.
"Normally when drinks companies knock at your door it's something fairly straightforward, so when something creative comes along, it's more interesting," Delorentos frontman Kieran McGuinness said. "There may be a few surprises, perhaps a traditional song, perhaps some less well- known stuff, perhaps some classics . . . and we might even be playing them on some pretty unusual instruments." He added that fans could probably expect songs by U2, Thin Lizzy and the Pogues among the surprises.
Tickets are free, although you must enter a draw by registering on jdroots.ie, from April 2nd to May 4th.
